FREE house insulation
Warm-Up Counties provides free insulation for the homes of people on low incomes.
"Little babies living in cold, damp overcrowded housing in New Zealand are admitted to hospital with chest infections three to five times more often than similar infants in Europe and the USA. One in 25 admitted to hospital requires breathing support or is admitted to intensive care. If you could change something fundamental – change the housing and make all houses fit for children. Warm dry housing goes a long way towards sorting these issues out.”
- Dr Adrian Trenholme, Clinical Leader Kidz First Children's Hospital
Many Aucklanders live in sub-standard homes and finding the money to warm up their surroundings is virtually impossible. An uninsulated house is expensive and inefficient to heat. Most low income families can’t afford to keep their homes at a healthy temperature. Middlemore Foundation is enthusiastically tackling the sub-standard living conditions of vulnerable families in Counties Manukau, Auckland and Waitemata District Health Boards.
Wrap around care
In some areas registered nurses and community health workers visit the homeowners to assess and address other health and social needs.
