First National Education Grant

The National Burn Service invites applications for a First National Education Grant, to be considered by National Burn Centre, Middlemore Foundation and First National Group representatives. The First National Education Grant will cover the registration costs only.  Any last minute cancellations will incur a cost to the applicant.

 

Closing date: 1 May 2023 

No applications will be considered after this date and incomplete applications will not be considered. 

Emergency Management of Severe Burns

Christchurch – 12th August ’23

Wellington (Hutt)  – 25th November ’23

Developed by the Australian and New Zealand Burn Association, this is the emergency burn course of choice in the United Kingdom, South Africa, Holland, the Pacific, Australia and New Zealand. It comprises a manual and a one-day practical course teaching participants how to recognise, assess, stabilize and transfer a severely burnt patient during their first 24 hours of care. It is aimed at any health professional who may have to treat a major burn injury. More information on the course is available at www.anzba.org.au

 

The fund will cover registration costs but participants must apply to their own DHB for funding of travel, accommodation and study leave.

Burn Rehabilitation Course

Melbourne, Monday 11 September 2023 

Developed by the Australia and New Zealand Burn Association, the Burn Rehabilitation Course is a one day intensive course designed to inform health providers regarding the assessment, treatment and complexity of rehabilitation of the burned patient. It covers both the physical and psychosocial aspects of burn rehabilitation and is presented within the biopsychosocial model of patient care. The BRC is aimed at all health care providers who may find themselves involved in the rehabilitation of a severely burnt patient. It will supplement existing clinical knowledge in the management of trauma patients with specific aspects and additional challenges associated with a burn injury. Australia New Zealand Burn Association Annual Scientific Meeting 
 Melbourne 12-15 September 2023

The premier Australasian meeting for burn care professionals. Latest innovations and international guest speakers ensure all attendees are kept up-to-date with latest developments.  Registration costs will be met, but participants must apply to their own DHB for funding of travel, accommodation and study leave.  You will be given instructions on how to register once funding has been approved.

ANZBA Nursing Seminar 16-17 June, 2023  

This clinically focused 2 day seminar will include the patient journey, adult and paediatric, from the acute stage through to discharge planning and long term follow up

  • Overcoming challenges of distance in burns care

  • Educational opportunities in burns care

  • Improving patient partnership and improving patient health literacy

  • Burns management in Yemen and Fiji

  • Infection control in Burns

  • Burns prevention

  • The journey of coordinating scar management across the life span. 

  • Non- pharmacological measures in pain management.

  • Advances in wound coverage

 

You will be given registration details once funding is approved.

Important notes:

  • Applications must include a letter of support from their line manager indicating they support the application, and that study leave, additional travel costs and accommodation will be supported by their employer.

 

  • Applicants should be willing to attend First National events to publicise the grant, and comply with media requests from First National promoting their sponsorship of the scheme. This may include photographs, quotes and attendance at local functions, newsletter, and social media or media stories.

 

Successful applicants will receive confirmation via the Middlemore Foundation. The applicant must make and fund their own travel and accommodation arrangements. Please be aware there is a cancellation fee for not attending the course.
