Invest in the future of healthcare through the Middlemore Foundation Pacific Workforce Development Fund 

We’re committed to building a healthcare workforce that better reflects and serves our communities. Our Workforce Development Fund supports students and healthcare professionals through scholarships, cadetships, training, and pastoral care. From school to tertiary study to the frontlines of care, we’re helping grow and retain a skilled, diverse, and compassionate workforce.

Scholarships & Support

We fund scholarships for aspiring healthcare workers—particularly nurses and students facing financial hardship. Many recipients come through the Pacific Health Science Academies, an education pathway led by FOU: The Future is Open to Us in South Auckland schools. With over 600 students enrolled, the Academies guide rangatahi into health careers, backed by financial and pastoral support as they move into tertiary study and beyond. We also support current healthcare workers with ongoing professional development opportunities, helping them grow their skills and advance their careers.

Cadetship Programme

Our pilot cadetship programme gives high school students paid, hands-on experience across hospital departments and community health providers like GP clinics and The Cause Collective. To date, 53 cadets have taken part, supported by the Hynds Foundation and Lotteries Community Grants. Click here to meet our Cadets
