Middlemore Foundation humbled by Whakaari/ White Island generosity

Updated: Dec 9, 2020

Middlemore Foundation would like to acknowledge the generosity of the community who responded to calls for support in the wake of the Whakaari/White Island tragedy.

"The volcanic eruption at Whakaari/White Island six weeks ago set in motion a massive national and international response, with the National Burn Service, hosted at Middlemore Hospital” says National Burn Service coordinator, Tracey Perrett.

We are amazed at the number of generous monetary donations and other contributions from individuals and businesses across the country to those affected by this disaster.

District Health Boards across New Zealand and suppliers also offered their support, donating instruments and essential equipment to assist with the response to the catastrophe. This included ventilators, ultrasounds, Meshe and bioquell machines and a theatre table.

Donations made through the Middlemore Foundation have so far reached over $100,000. We cannot thank New Zealand enough for coming together in this difficult time of need to help those affected. Your ongoing support never ceases to amaze us and has provided additional equipment and resources to better support patients and their families now and into the future.

“So many people and companies went above and beyond to help with the response. The spirit of generosity has been incredible,” says Ms Perrett.

We would like to thank you all for responding efficiently and effectively. Your donations have helped make a positive difference.
