Celebrating our wonderful knitters and sewers
We hosted a special afternoon tea to celebrate our incredible knitters and sewers, whose generosity and dedication see them spend countless hours creating clothing, blankets, toys and other handmade gifts for our patients. While many of these gifts support babies and their whaanau, they also bring comfort and joy to older patients and others across the hospital, helping to support their wellbeing when they need it most.

Mere Pounamu, Team Lead for Family Harm with Otahuhu Police, and Clare Mafi, who works alongside Middlemore's midwifery team, joined us to share their gratitude and the difference these handmade gifts make to the people they support. Their stories were a wonderful reminder of the care and aroha our knitters and sewers pass on through every item they create.
A special thank you to Sharkey St Bakery for generously donating donuts for the afternoon tea, and to Greater Construction and hospital staff who volunteered their time to help manage the huge volume of donations and support our wonderful knitters and sewers.
A huge thank you to all our wonderful knitters and sewers, both those who joined us for the afternoon tea and those who couldn't be there. We are incredibly grateful for the time, skill and care you put into every handmade gift, and for the comfort and joy you bring to our patients and their whaanau
